Sunday started off with a race that had never been run at Cheltenham before and I could do nothing with it. Every man and his dog seemed to thing THE KEMBLE BREWERY only had to turn up to win and he was duly punted in to odds on, going off at 4/7 after what appeared to be the only danger, TELLHERTHENAME, was pulled out.
However, this race highlighted exactly what we are dealing with at this time of year, with Novices over hurdles, or fences. Until they jump in public, we have absolutely no idea how they will perform. Kim Bailey was very bullish before the start, telling TV viewers the horse had schooled very well….but then the tapes went up and it made a very bad mistake at the first, it was novicey at the fourth, and you could see from two out the horse was hating the experience, hanging right all the way up the straight. It finished third and beaten nearly 10 lengths.
We had our first Profiled race at 1-45pm and the only horse I could have possibly punted was CREBILLY.
He was absolutely tanking going to the second last and it seemed Jonjo Jnr. just had to let it loose after that fence, and the cash was in the bank. Just as on day 1, the selection fell. That luck will turn….well, you have to keep telling yourself that!
The third race on the final day….ultra competitive and I found watching the markets very interesting. Post Racing members were advised I was dutching three, MALINA GIRL (WON 9/1 > 11/2), CLOUDY GLEN (2ND 11/1), and CITY CHIEF (4TH 4/1F)
These were my figures,, and “Scribblings”

ASTECH GOLD STAKE MANAGEMENT = DUTCH TOP THREE
SCRIBBLINGS
A VERY LIVELY MARKET THIS MORNING. I SPOTTED A HUGE MOVE FOR DOM OF MARY AND WHILST THAT ONE HAS NOW EASED A POINT, THE MOVE WAS ALREADY MADE.
MY TOP RATED IS NOW A DECENT LOOKING FAVOURITE….NOT YET STRONG BUT, GETTING THERE.
THE EARLY MOVE FOR CLOUDY GLEN HAS DRIED UP BUT THE YARD IS IN FORM AND FIRST TIME OUT THIS HORSE HAS PRODUCED FORM FIGURES READING 5, 1, 4, 1, 3 SO THEY’VE DEFINTELY GOT THE E.W. MONEY ON.
MY TOP RATED IS 2-2 ON THE GOING AS CURRENTLY DESCRIBED, WHILST THE OTHER MOVER, ROSE OF ARCADIA, IS 0-1….1-1 TRIP THOUGH
NOT A RACE TO GET HEAVILY INVOLVED IN BUT I’M THINKING THE THREE HIGHEST RATED HORSES HAVING THE ✳️ ICON FOR A DUTCH?
The last line is the most pertinent, although the text regarding the early move for CLOUDY GLEN proved spot on, too.
The Profiling selection came home in third place @ 8/1 so all in all, a good race for everyone.
We won linger long on JONBON….he’s as good as I told my members three years ago, that he was….before he had jumped a hurdle in public. The race of the szeason will be the March rematch between him and EL FABIOLO….on hopefully better ground.
The Greatwood Hurdle again saw the Markets dictating what was about to happen and I updated the Profiling page with….:
UPDATE:
- (OMM) 3-30 – ONLYAMATTEROFTIME – 7/1 > 3/1 > 6/1
- (OMM) 3-30 – L’EAU DU SUD – 10/1 > 9/2 (SOLID)
- (OMM) 3-30 – IBERICO LORD – 8/1 > 5/1 > 6/1 – WON 7/1
The Mullins runner moved very early but is now very easy to bet, the strongest on the tissue, by far, being the Profiling selection.
My advice to my Post Racing members here was that I would be abstaining as I could not make head nor tail of it. The reason for that was we have so many unexposed types going for it and whilst my figures and OMMS had the winner right in the mix. I could not have bet it.
The last on the card, the Bumper, and I very quickly advised that the winner was one of:
- BRECHIN CASTLE – WON 9/4
- FIRE FLYER – 2ND 9/2
- MOON CHIME – 3RD 7/2
Sometimes this game is so easy….but then you get one 10 lengths clear going over the last, and it falls.
Racing, eh!
