This meeting is more a bit of a Cheltenham “filler”, nothing like what we’ll see in march, or on Trials Day.
Race 1 is only three races old, so nothing I can “profile” there, race 2….five runner race that has never been run before….odds on favourite in a Novice Chase….race 3….profiled (below), race 4 ditto….enough back history to put something together….race 5 is another with a ton of stuff for me to work with but you already have a 4/7 favourite in a six horse race, that gets 6lb from a horse he is officially rated  1lb better than. I already know it will be the profile selection.
Race 6….profiled and below.
The Bumper…race 7….one previous running. I’ll just be watching.
What I have done for tomorrow is give you access to everything on the Post Racing website. That includes:
- THE PROFF’S TOP THREE FOR NINE MEETINGS
- THREE RATED RACES FROM CHELTENHAM
- THE OMMS

CHELTENHAM 1-25
We have had 18 previous running’s of this race, and we have had winners aged 6 (1), 7 (2), 8 (2), 9 (8), 10 (2) 11 (2), and 12 (1).
The ground is forecast to be genuinely good and I cannot find the last time this meeting was run on going that quick.
A sign of the times.
Age groupings ar no use really. I guess we could nail our colours to the mast of the nine year olds…all one of them….SPIKE JONES….already 0-2 at Cheltenham.
Weight ranges?
I see that 15 of those winners carried 11st, or more….that gives us four names to ponder:
- DOES HE KNOW
- SHANNON ROYALE
- HERAKLES WESTWOOD
- KATATE DORI
Market position of our winners suggests top four on the tissue is definitely the place to be….seven of the last 10 winners were and we’ve only seen three winners bigger than 8/1so we’ve now got three to work with:
- DOES HE KNOW
- HERAKLES WESTWOOD
- KATATE DORI
I can nail a profit of 80% at current bet fair price, to a dutch….that has been played.
DOES HE KNOW carries 12st and only one winner has thus far managed to carry that kind of weight so my Profile selection must be one of the other two, mustn’t it?….both fit with regards a run in the last five weeks. But both are 0-3 at the track, and KATARI DORI is already 0-5 on good ground….HERAKLES WESTWOOD has yet to race on it….but he is 0-1 trip, whilst KATATE DORI is 1-4 on it.
I’ll suggest a 20/80 DOES HE KNOW but for sure, I’m dutching!

EARLY MARKET MOVES
KATATE DORI – 7/2 > 11/4
CHELTENHAM 2-00
Another race that has plenty of back history but also proves age means nowt….winners in the 16 years aged 7 (4), 8 (4), 9 (6), 10 (1), 11 (1)….I’d suggest we make a shortlist of horses aged seven, eight, and nine:
- MATATA
- TWINJETS
- RISKINTHEGROUND
- IL RIDOTO
- MOON D’ORANGE
- JUST OVER LAND
With 11 of the 16 winners having carried 11st + to victory I’ll go down that road and remove this carrying less:
- MATATA
- TWINJETS
- RISKINTHEGROUND
Down to three….and a dutch that pays a profit right now of 150%
Market position of those 16 winners does indicate a preference for those front three on the tissue….:
- TWINJETS
- RISKINTHEGROUND
Down to a pair.
For Profiling purposes I’ll revisit those age groupings and select TWINJETS as our Profile horse. The 9-y-o’s have a very good record (the best), and he arrives unbeaten this season, is 3-6 at there trip and his only previous run here was for Milton Bradley, over hurdles….blew out.

CHELTENHAM 2-35
Is there really any point in my waffling on for several paragraphs only to tell you the Profile selection is KABRAL DU MATHAN?
Traditionally I’m looking for a six year trading front three on the tissue. weights do not matter as it’s a Graded race and you need to be sitting front three on the tissue….only one qualifier, KABRAL DU MATHAN.
As I said right at the start of this Newsletter, he’s getting 6lb off last year winner, LUCKY PLACE and is officially 1lb superior according to the handicapper.

THE PROFF’S TOP THREE
- LUCKY PLACE
- KABRAL DU MATHAN
- JINGKO BLUE
EARLY MOVERS
NONE
CHELTENHAM 3-10
We finish Profiling with a small field handicap, just seven lining up and with 13 vol the last 18 winners aged six or seven, that’s were we go to start with;
- MA SHANTOU
- DOUBLE POWERFUL
- ACE OF SPADES
- PIKE ROAD
Weight ranges next. Difficult to pin down. last season 10st 2lb won it, the season before, 11st 6lb….the season before that 10st 2lb, and in 2022 it was 11st 6lb again….then 10st, then 11st 4lb….and so on.
Market position is what I’ll work with now and once again, it’s front three on the tissue. We had a 28/1 winner in 2022 but 12 of the last 18 winners traded between8/1 > 3/1….with nine of those winners trading 5/1, or shorter.
Our winner is one of:
- MA SHANTOU
- DOUBLE POWERFUL
- ACE OF SPADES
The dutch looks a good play, it is 9/1 bar the three named, pays 30% profit and I have already covered it. When you see my figures on the website you’ll see why I’m more than happy to go down this road!
For my Profile selection I’ll run with MA SHANTOU, because the other two are both 0-2 trip, MA SHANTOU 1-4…..more than happy just dutching though.
