An embarrassment of riches that man Mullins has.
When compiling my list of his horses for the 2024 Cheltenham Festival, this horse was very close to the top and last Saturday you saw exactly why that was.
He went off the 4/11 favourite to win the Beginners Chase at Punchestown and was settled in second place before taking it up after the fourth fence.
Paul Townend let out an inch of reign and the horse quickly went a distance clear of his field. He never saw another rival.
At the winning line he was only 15 lengths ahead of the second placed horse but he was allowed to simply canter home.
I’m now looking for clues as to what his Festival target will be and over the Christmas period he holds several entries, one being the Faugheen Novice’s Chase, for which he is priced up @ 1/2….last year that race was won by GERRI COLOMBE and that makes me think Brown Advisory, despite all the noise and stuff after the race.
Mullins said, “That was better than I expected. The way he ran and jumped, I don’t think we’d have a problem dropping him back to two miles”.
This horse is a stayer. He would have won the Stayers Hurdle in March had they kept him for hurdling and I see the Brown Advisory as the perfect fit.
Mullins has won the Faugheen in the past with the likes of OUTLANDER, who never raced over distances shorter than 2 miles 4 furlongs afterwards, and BELLSHILL, who then ran third in MIGHT BITE’s RSA Novices Chase….so if this one does turn up at Limerick on December 28th, you know what the plan is….BROWN ADVISORY.
