I have been doing this long enough now to know a good horse when I see one.

In April this year I started looking for THE ONE for Cheltenham 2024 and I sent my Post Racing members this before he ran again in the Punchestown Gold Cup on the 26th of April, 2023.

“FASTORSLOW

For those that may have missed this from earlier in the week….

One thing I wanted to do here this morning was advise you put a horse in your trackers.

I found it the Monday after the Cheltenham Festival had finished and genuinely felt if I could find a race at the Cheltenham Festival it might race in, we had an ante post play a year in advance. Nothing yet but the cat is about to be let out of the bag so….

FASTORSLOW

In the Ultima it was having just its fourth run over fences and was asked to give CORACH RAMBLER 4LB….it failed by just a neck. Obviously that form has been given a thumping boost and it likely to get another over the weekend when MONBEG GENIUS goes for the Scottish National.

If you read RPR Ratings then you already know that the RPR this Irish horse produced would have got him sixth place-ish, in the Gold Cup and if he goes for a handicap at the Punchestown Festival next week, he must be rated near banker material.

I’ve highlighted a line of text that tells you why I had to let you know about the horse when I did.

Look at the formbook and you get an idea as to how good the trainer thinks this horse is. Martin Brassil is as shrewd as they come, and the year before launching this horse on a chasing career he tried to win the Coral Cup at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival with him.

He had given the horse two runs over an inadequate two miles before sending him to Cheltenham to race over two miles five furlongs. The horse failed by just a short head.

This year exactly the same modus operandi….two runs over shorter trips, in Grade 1 company, before upping him in trip for Cheltenham and dropping him in grade.
Failed by a neck to give weight to CORACH RAMBLER, who then went on to make a mockery of his handicap mark in the Grand National.

You only needed to watch his running style to see three miles minimum was what he needed and as I mentioned, his run in that race he got nutted by the National winner produced a run that would put him in the first six home in the Gold Cup…with improvement still to come, as that was just his fourth run over fences.”

FASTORSLOW was then punted from 66/1 > 33/1 to win the Punchestown Gold Cup and many members got on e.w. @ 66/1….most at only 33/1.

He beat GALOPIN DES CHAMPS easily that day but on Sunday the layers decided that was a fluke….in he goes again @ 9/1, beating the Gold Cup winner again, that one going off @ 4/9f.

I have always thought this seasons Cheltenham Gold Cup form was iffy. I do not rate BRAVEMANSGAME that highly and he was also stuffed at Haydock on Saturday.

It always pays to trust your own eyes and those who kept the faith today got a lovely “draw” from the race.Β
